  The basic knowledge of aluminium foil

 1. The definition of aluminum foil: aluminum foil is thin strip or sheet coil after rolling by aluminium and aluminium alloy plate . In China, if the thickness less than 0.2 ㎜, we call it aluminum foil aluminium or aluminium alloy plate strip.

2. The domestic situation: the earliest aluminium foil manufacturing plant in China is Shanghai Hualv alminum factory, it was jointly established in 1932 by Swiss aluminium company, alcan and British aluminium company, the production process is iron casting, hot rolling, cold rolling and aluminum foil rolling, the foil rolling mill is two-fold non-reversing rolling mill. As production reaches the number one in the world, the current aluminum foil rolling mills generally have a high degree of automation, fast production speed, high efficiency, stable product quality, etc. Among them, Xiashun Aluminium Foil Ltd is currently the world's largest double zero foil professional production enterprise, producing high quality aluminium foil 70 kt (under 0.007 ㎜) every year.

3. The classification of the aluminum foil:

(1) According to the shape points, it can be divided into aluminum foil rolls and aluminum foil sheets. Most of the aluminum foil supply mode is roll, and just a handful of handicraft industry users use aluminum foil sheets.

(2) According to the thickness of the points, it can be divided into thick foil, single zero foil, and double zero foil. The thick foil ranges from 0.1 to 0.2 ㎜, the single zero foil is 0.01 ㎜ or less than 0.1 ㎜, and the double zero foil means two zero after decimal point.

(3) According to the state, mainly are full hard foil, soft foil, semi-hard foil, a quarter hard foil, and three-quarter hard foil.

(4) According to the surface points, it can be divided into single foil and double foil.

(5) According to utility , it can be divided into packing foil, foil for commodities, electrical equipment and architectural foil with foil.

4. The nature of the aluminum foil: thin and light, specific strength, good gloss, high heat conductivity and electric conductivity, strong moisture resistance, non-toxic, tasteless, good insulating block rotation, heat insulation property, good corrosion resistance.

 5. The name and state of aluminium and aluminium alloy were expressed in domestic unified representation method in the past, namely the Chinese pinyin plus serial number, this method has been discontinued since 1996, people now use international four digits system method.

  Alloy adopts the four digits system, including: the first digit represents alloy series, if the first digit is 1, it represents the pure aluminium series, if the first digit is 2-8, it represents different series of aluminum alloy which given priority to some alloying elements, 1 represents pure aluminum, the last two digits represents the two digit after decimal point in the minimum aluminum weight. The second digit represents the controlling condition of alloy elements or impurities maximum content. For example: 1100 represents the aluminum content is 99.00%, 1235 represents pure aluminum content is 99.35%, 8011 chemical component: silicon content is 0.50 ~ 0.90, iron content is 0.60 ~ 1.0, copper content is 0.10, manganese content is 0.20, magnesium is 0.05, chromium content is 0.05, nickel content is0.10, zinc content is 0.10, Ti content is 0.08, other content is 0.15, and the other contents is 0.15, the aluminum content is 8011 (H14), mechanical properties: tensile strength: 125 ~ 165, yield strength: 110, elongation: 2 ~ 5.

  The state and code of aluminium and aluminium alloy. Basic condition: F - free processing status, O - annealing condition, H –hardening condition, W - solid solution heat treatment state, T - heat treatment condition. Further states: after basic state we need plus 2 or 3 digits, the first number is 1, 2, 3, 4 which represents the state's basic processing procedure, the second digit of the basic status represents the product's work hardening capacity, the number eight represents hard state, about the state between O (annealing) and H x 8, we should add number from 1 to 7 to show the limitation and the usage of aluminum foil, mainly state is O, H1 and H2, and other states are seldom used.

6. Currently, the uppermost produce method of aluminum foil is rolling method. Rolling is the most commonly and famous processing method in metal pressure processing. The rolling process is the plastic deformation process of interaction between rollers and rolled piece, the rolled pieces is pulled by the roll and be compressed.

7. The aluminum foil base meterial is divided into hot rolling billet (DC), and roll casting billet (CC). Recently, a new type of billet production process, namely, the casting and rolling production process (hartz Wright) production technology has developed fast, and has become another way of aluminum billet production. At present in domestic, DC and CC are still the main billets for aluminum foil products.

8. The technical requirements of aluminum billet: melt quality, surface quality, end face quality, the deviation of leather thickness and width, type quality and mechanical properties.

9. The principle of making aluminum foil rolling:

  The confirmation of total working rate: the total working rate refers to the foil deformation degree after recrystallization annealing and rolling. Generally speaking, the total working rate of 1 serie can reach 99%, some 8 serie of this products also can achieve this number, but generally , the total processing of aluminum foil may below 90%.

10. The technological parameters of rolling aluminum foil: rolling speed, tension, rolling force, and oil temperature.

11. The roll is an important part of aluminum foil rolling mill. Aluminum foil quadruple nonreversing rolling mill, it has four rolls, two work rolls and two backup rolls, the work roll hardness must be 100-102 HSD, and backup roll hardness must be 75-75HSD.

12. Roll shape control methods: adjust the parameters of rolling process, heating or cooling roll, using bending roller and roller type automatic control.

13. The aluminum foil rolling oil called rolling oil, also known as rolling technology lubricating oil. The requirements of the rolling oil: (1) good lubrication performance (2) good cooling performance (3) annealing and pollute less (4) good flow property (5) appropriate viscosity and flash point. (6) better stability (7) non-toxic, low aromatics, no bad smell(8) reasonable price and plentiful products.

14. The thickness measuring methods of aluminum foil rolling: eddy current thickness, Isotope X-ray thickness and X-ray thickness. X-ray thickness are the most famous methods in aluminum foil processing, especially in high speed aluminum foil mill.

15. The thickness controlling methods of the aluminum foil rolling: rolling force control, tension control, speed control and tension/speed, speed, tension control.

16. The influence factors of aluminum foil shape quality: roll type, wool's original shape, equipment precision, rolling technology accuracy, the roll gap of rolling.
